Go Team GB & NI!
Here's an interesting letter from The Scotsman which seems to reflect how British people generally perceive the north of Ireland:
"The Winter Olympics have begun with references on TV to the "British team", the team from "Great Britain" and "Team GB". When will someone at the BBC learn "Great Britain" does not include Northern Ireland. How can we expect foreigners to understand the difference between UK/GB/England, etc, if we can't get it right ourselves."
Rob Pearson
Mr Pearson, I would say that the BBC are simply reflecting the commonly held view of the British public.
They simply don't regard Ireland's north as being a part of their country.
I can see why this might be unsettling for unionists but it's the reality of the situation.
